| Staff mentor/counselors provide one-on-one guidance in a special relationship designed to development a moral base for decision making and an acceptance of accountability for ones actions.
Non-clinical counseling/mentoring system Athletics All students are required to participate in physical education classes. Those students maintaining a 2.0 average who are interested in competitive sports, are encouraged to join one or more of the Bay Point teams playing under the auspices of the Florida State Activities Association. Bay Points competes in: Basketball Football Soccer Baseball Track & Field Wrestling Behavior Management The key to Bay Points successful rehabilitation of 90% of the boys who successfully complete the program, is the positive peer culture. A hierarchical continuum of behavioral levels motivates the student to change his attitude and accept accountability for his actions. Because peer influence is so powerful, each student is guided by a big brother, a student who has changed his behavior and attitude and who takes pride in qualifying to help a new student. The behavioral hierarchy: Neutral - This is the first step up the continuum and allows for some loosening of the tight monitoring. The student has not demonstrated much positive behavior but he is less negative in his attitude. Positive - This next step up the continuum occurs because the student is making some effort to be positive and to fit into the program structure. A positive student has earned some measure of trust and assumes some responsibilities within the program. This level also earns more privileges and is less restricted. Observation - The student at this level has demonstrated that he assumes responsibility well and understands that he must avoid anti social behavior. He is now on observation for election to the student government, the Falcon Club. Pledge - The student at this level has one task to accomplish to become a Falcon. He must complete a log book. This entails either confronting other students for negative actions or praising them for positive ones. Falcon's Club - Once the log is completed and with full confirmation by staff and Falcons, the student is welcomed into the student government, the Falcons Club. These students assist the staff in their responsibilities To earn the Falcons status the student must demonstrate positive behavior and learn to accept and to give confrontation. As Falcons they must appreciate the fact that others helped them in their climb up the status ladder and now it is their turn to help others do the same. In return for this achievement students earn many privileges: Home Visits Fishing trips Sports events |
