Bay Point Schools offers a comprehensive therapeutic program and a challenging, fully-accredited academic program. You will find a warm, caring, structured residential component and varied team building, sports, and co-curricular programs. Each student is provided with the potential of mastering new life skills that will promote a sense of accomplishment as well as self esteem, discipline, and pride.
Diversified Athletics
Participation in athletics teaches students to play by the rules.
The highly competitive sports program is an involving and exciting way to teach anger control, frustration management, persistence through facing defeat and learning to be a good team member. Many Bay Point students were not allowed to play competitive sports at their previous schools for disciplinary reasons or poor academic performance. Any student maintaining a C average is encouraged to join one or more of the Bay Point teams. Bay Point competes in football, baseball, boxing, soccer, wrestling, track and field, and basketball.
Mentoring and Coaching
Through team sports, students gain pride, self esteem, and a sense of belonging. Students have access to professional, dynamic coaches specializing in all areas of sports. Don Chaney, Bay Point’s executive vice president and chief operating officer also serves as a key mentor and coach to the students. Mr. Chaney, a former NFL Player, encourages and inspires with his own life story. Growing up in a Miami ghetto, Don Chaney was making decisions that could have led him down the wrong path. While a senior at Homestead High, Chaney tried out for the football team, a move that led to a college football scholarship and eventually to the NFL! James Burgess, a former San Diego Chargers linebacker, is another coach and mentor at Bay Point.
“Believe in your dreams and stay focused. I look at where I’ve come from to where I am today–I’m living the dream.” – Don Chaney
H2Os Foundation
The H2Os Foundation recently teamed with Bay Point to provide world-class swimming instruction to the students. The comprehensive curriculum opens the door for students to enroll in a learn-to-swim program, participate in aquatic sports adventures, and even become certified lifeguards and water safety instructors. |
